The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority Commemorates the 'Millennium' (Silver)

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, in conjunction with the British Royal Mint, has issued a scalloped-edged $2 silver proof coin commemorating the Millennium. This dual-dated coin which is struck to the highest standard, encapsulates the Cayman Islands' hopes for the future as our country lies on the threshold of a new millennium.

These silver coins are presented in green vinyl cases. The reverse design, by Royal Mint engraver Christopher N. Lawrence, features an ornate clock face with its hands set at midnight and is surrounded by six orchids. The clock symbolises the beginning of the new millennium, while the orchids indicate the Caymanians' determination to protect the Islands' unique flora and fauna for future generations. The obverse depicts an updated portrait of Her Majesty the Queen as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, FRBS, FSNAD.
