Deputy Head - Compliance Division
Mrs. Kara Owens was appointed Deputy Head of the Compliance Division of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority ("CIMA") effective 1 October 2020.
Mrs. Owens started her regulatory career with CIMA in January 2009 as an Analyst in the Banking Supervision Division and worked her way up through the ranks after having served in various roles. In 2015, Mrs. Owens expanded her regulatory knowledge and experience by transferring to the Fiduciary Services Division and later in 2017 to the Onsite Inspection Unit, where she held such roles as Chief Analyst and Acting Deputy Head.
In her current role as Deputy Head of Compliance, Mrs. Owens supports the management of the division by supervising and providing guidance and assistance to staff. She also manages the administration of non-compliant cases, enforcement actions, requests for assistance from Overseas Regulatory Authorities, onward disclosures from the Financial Reporting Authority and investigations of entities or persons who appear to be conducting regulatory activity without the required licence or authorisation from the Authority.
Mrs. Owens has over 13 years of regulatory experience and holds a Bachelors degree in International Business and Management (Hons) from Florida International University. She is also a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist and a Member of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists.
