Mr. Kennedy Mutunga is a seasoned financial services professional with over 18 years of expertise in regulatory policy development, risk management, auditing, and accounting.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and a Master’s degree in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London, UK. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fintech Practitioner, and Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM). Additionally, he has specialised qualifications in risk governance, sustainability, and climate risk management. Mr. Mutunga also earned a Higher Diploma in Information Systems Management from the Institute for the Management of Information Systems (now the British Computer Society) and completed the Oxford Strategic Management Executive Programme from the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.
Before joining CIMA, Mr. Mutunga served as Associate Director of Banking Risk at a local financial institution, where he played a key role in market, credit, and liquidity risk management, regulatory compliance, and capital adequacy assessments. His career also includes extensive financial auditing experience with PwC Bermuda, Deloitte Channel Islands, and Ernst & Young Kenya, where he conducted financial and statutory audits for a diverse portfolio of clients, including banks, private equity firms, hedge funds, and manufacturing entities.
Mr. Mutunga is a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA). He is deeply committed to advancing risk management practices that enhance financial resilience, regulatory development, and compliance.
