The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (“CIMA” or “the Authority”) is pleased to announce that applications for The Thomas Jefferson Memorial Scholarship are now open.

The scholarship programme was established in 2007 in memory of the late Honourable Thomas Jefferson, former Financial Secretary and Leader of Government Business. The scholarship offers an award of CI$25,000 per year for students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a business or finance related field from an accredited institution.

Recipients who are awarded the scholarship are required to work at CIMA during their school breaks where they work side-by-side with some of CIMA’s leaders, gaining valuable experience with cutting edge issues that impact the financial services industry. Upon completion of their studies, recipients are also offered guaranteed placement at CIMA for a period of up to four years.

Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Cindy Scotland said, “At CIMA, we are dedicated to providing students with the resources they need to succeed, offering both financial assistance and practical work experience. By lightening the financial load, we allow students to fully immerse themselves in their academic journeys, ensuring they have the opportunity to excel and build successful careers. We value education as a cornerstone for the progression of both individuals and the financial services industry in the Cayman Islands.”

She added, “Our commitment to fostering the development of local talent ensures that future leaders will be well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to the industry, advancing both their personal growth and the continued success of the sector.”

To be eligible, applicants must be Caymanian-born or hold Caymanian Status and must have been accepted into an accredited university program as a full-time student. For bachelor's degree candidates, applicants must have achieved a minimum of five CXC passes or an SAT score of at least 950. For those applying for a master's degree, a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is required.
